Inspired by PIFA’s city-wide Paris festival, Lyric Fest presents a program that explores fascination with all things “Other” in Paris in the early 20th century: Exoticism, Orientalism, African and American Jazz influences, Animal songs, the Occult and the Forbidden. A captivating program of songs and historic narrative interspersed with the reflections of contemporaneous composers and poets. Selections from Ravel’s Chansons Madécasses, Stravinsky’s Three Japanese Lyrics, Albert Roussel’s Jazz dans la nuit, Francis Poulenc’s Le bestiaire, and Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins, and more. With guest artists Clara O’Brien, Manon Strauss Evrard and Randall Scarlata.
