Biography in Music of Winnaretta Singer - An American Patroness in Paris

A Singer’s Singer

American-born Singer Sewing Machine heiress Winnaretta Singer became the Princess de Polignac when she married a titled (but bankrupt) aristocratic composer, Prince Edmond de Polignac, in a Mariage blanc. Together the two created one of the most famous salons in Paris, one that Winnaretta would continue well into the 20th century. This far-reaching, but little known story takes a look at 50 years of Singer’s influence on music, and on Paris. Trail-blazer and philanthropist, Singer lived life on her own terms, ahead of her time. Her fascinating story will be told through the songs she commissioned and that were performed in her salon. With letters and biographical narration, and with singers Danielle Talamantes, Marjorie Maltais, Jorell Williams, Laura Ward, piano, and Suzanne DuPlantis, script and narration.

Songs of Debussy, Satie, Stravinsky, Fauré, Ravel, Grainger, Quilter, De Falla, and more…
