Kelly Ann Bixby

Soprano Kelly Ann Bixby is a performer and collaborator specializing in contemporary song, concert, and chamber music. Praised by Gramophone for her “sublime” soprano, she has appeared with Opera Philadelphia, Spoleto Festival USA, OPERA America, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Princeton Festival Opera, New Jersey Opera, DuPage Opera, and Philadelphia’s Lyric Fest, with performances at the Kimmel Center, Lincoln Center, and venues throughout the United States and abroad.

Bixby is an active recording artist with a particular focus on the creation and interpretation of new and contemporary American music. Her featured recordings include OPERA America’s New American Songbook, Daron Hagen’s 21st-Century Song Cycles, and Spirits in Bondage: Songs of Benjamin C. S. Boyle, and she can be heard on more than 20 albums on the Innova, ECM, Naxos, and other labels. Her collaborations encompass numerous premieres and newly commissioned works, enlivening music by Caroline Shaw, Juliana Hall, Frank Ticheli, Christopher Cerrone, Abbie Betinis, and Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Lewis Spratlan.

Since 2009, Bixby has been a core member and featured soloist with The Crossing, conducted by Donald Nally, performing and recording new works by many of today’s leading composers. Named Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year in 2023, The Crossing has won four GRAMMY Awards for Best Choral Performance (2018, 2019, 2023, and 2025) and received GRAMMY nominations across ten consecutive years.

Bixby is also the founder and producer of Le Salon, an intimate concert and connection series at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette that brings together artists and community partners in chamber music and multidisciplinary performance.

Bixby holds degrees in vocal performance and pedagogy from the University of Michigan (BM, DMA) and Westminster Choir College (MM). She has served on the voice faculty at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since 2019, where she is currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of Voice.
