This video, besides being absolutely stellar vocally, is hilarious. (I am trying not to type o – m – g) Richard Tauber, Austrian tenor (1891 — 1948) dressed like Schubert, glasses and all, at the piano accompanying himself doing Schubert’s Ständchen. I absolutely love the way he stares at the camera at the end of each stanza and does the little can-you-believe-I-am-this-good shake of the head. Do listen to the end! He throws in a little somethin’ special. What Cheek! And what talent.
