Lyric Fest Song Competition Deadline Extended

LYRIC FEST ANNOUNCES YOUNG SONG COMPOSERS COMPETITION

For Immediate Release

Lyric Fest announces its first song competion. The winner will receive both a cash prize of $600 and a Lyric Fest debut. The winning song will be presented on Lyric Fest’s upcoming concert in March of 2014. Composers up to age 30, as of January 1, 2014 are invited to submit a setting of any female American poet scored for any voice type with piano accompaniment. The song should be no longer than 5 minutes. There is no entrance fee.

Celebrating both Women’s History Month and Poetry Month, Lyric Fest presents a fantastically varied program of American women poets in song. Both well loved and little known settings are included, as well as Lyric Fest’s latest commission project: song premieres by composers Abbie Betinis, Benjamin C.S. Boyle, Douglas Cuomo, Michael Djupstrom, Daron Hagen, James Primosch and Maurice Wright. The concert will also feature the winning song of Lyric Fest’s Young Song Composers Competition, inaugurated in this season. With guest artists: Kiera Duffy, Joseph Gaines, Randall Scarlata and Elizabeth Shammash with Laura Ward at the piano.

Deadline Extended to: January 6, 2014, 12:00 midnight

All songs should be sent electronically in two copies: one with composer’s name and one without. The blind copies will be forwarded to a well respected independent panel of judges. You may submit a midi file but it is not required. Please send your submission to info@lyricfest.org.
