Imagine what can happen when a dad gets a son to actually unplug his iPod for a walk! Lyric Fest takes kids on a sound journey through Philadelphia... Broadway on Broad, the Classics on the Avenue, Jazz in Old City and Opera at the Academy! Our concert winds up with Richard Wargo's "The Music Shop", a hilarious mini-opera about trip to a music store to find a tune so familiar, that no one can remember it... Join us for a concert winning enough to entertain the toughest iPod-plugged critic in your kitchen!

Lyric Fest opens its season with love songs for a crowd... an ensemble of solo voices, four hands on the piano, and an effervescent program that bubbles along from champagne to six pack! Hear Brahms's complete Liebeslieder Waltzes and the many surprising works they inspired: Lowell Liebermann's Appalachian Liebeslieder (settings of prose by Laren Stover), John Greer's Liebesleid-lieder (poems of Dorothy Parker), Bernstein's Arias and Barcarolles, and Corigliano's Liebeslied. With Suzanne DuPlantis, Thomas Lloyd, Randi Marrazzo, Randall Scarlata, Benjamin Sosland, and Elizabeth Weigle, and pianists Harold Evans and Laura Ward.

"Power is safest in a poet's hands, thus for the artist, God will pose." (Hafiz, 14th century). Join us for a rare dip into the abundant store of sacred song and poetic text in this special program that celebrates the Experience of the Divine. Lyric Fest brings together the creative expressions of composers, seers and mystics from many cultures and many times to create this rich tapestry of world spirituality. Our program will also feature our bi-annual commission project; a world premier by acclaimed Philadelphia composer, Kile Smith. With Timothy Bentch, Suzanne DuPlantis, Lorraine Hinds, Jennifer Hsiung, Steven LaBrie, Randi Marrazzo, and the Motet Choir of the Pennsylvania Girlchoir, Mark Anderson, conductor, with Laura Ward at the piano.

Shakespeare - Bard of Avon & the human heart, a writer so universal in scope as to have been translated into nearly every language on the globe. Lyric Fest brings back Shakespeare’s life and works in song as his timeless verse threaded throughout 400 years of musical history. One performance only at the University of Delaware. With Jim Bergwall, narrator, David Adams, Suzanne DuPlantis, Cara Latham, Randi Marrazzo, Mark Moliterno, Cristina Nassif, Alexander Tall, and pianist Laura Ward.

Biography in Music - TCHAIKOVSKY

Composer, poet and music critic, Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky is the subject of this year's new Biography in Music. Against the backdrop of Czarist Russia, Tchaikovsky fought hard to pursue a career in music, enduring both intense mental struggle and fiery relationships before finally emerging as one of his era's most beloved composers. As a compulsive letter writer, the course of his life and times remains documented with stunning clarity and poignance. Join Lyric Fest for this musical documentary featuring Tchaikovsky's life and works: opera, song, chamber music and letters. With guest artists Anton Belov, Michael Fabiano, Jessica Julin, Tatyana Rashkovsky, narrator Jim Bergwall and special guest pianist, Ghenady Meirson.
