A program celebrating the works and life of Philadelphia Poet, Edgar Allan Poe, featuring the area premiere of “The Raven” by Nicholas White, scored for a quartet of solo voices, string quartet, and piano. Also featuring solo song settings of Poe’s poetic works and readings from Poe’s prose. With singers Emily Noel, Roger Isaacs, James Reese, Steven Combs, Suzanne DuPlantis with Laura Ward, piano, Nicholas White, conductor.

Sibelius celebrates 150 – mini concert and reception

Tuesday, December 8, 2015, 6:00pm at The Academy of Vocal Arts

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jean Sibelius, Lyric Fest offered a short concert to be celebrated with drinks and hors d’oeuvres at AVA at 5:30pm and music at 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, the day of his birth. Song aficionados know that though seldom programmed in the U.S., Sibelius songs are considered to be among the finest in the repertory. Singers Anne Marie Frohnmayer, Anthony Schneider, and Suzanne DuPlantis join Laura Ward at the piano to present many of his most beautiful works, sung in the original Swedish, Finnish, and German.

Composer Talk on Sunday, April 3rd at 2:00 PM at The Academy of Vocal Arts

This program of mostly American song takes a detour from the verse of poets and looks to setting letters to music. Join Lyric Fest for its newest commission project, where each selection is not only a song, but a story. New works premiered by three Philadelphia composers, Benjamin C.S. Boyle, John Conahan and Thomas Lloyd, joined by composers Juliana Hall, Daron Hagen, Lori Laitman and Logan Skelton. With singers Kelly Ann Bixby, soprano, Andrew Fuchs, tenor, Katy Pracht, mezzo, and Keith Phares, baritone accompanied by Laura Ward.

This concert featured a young song composer competition as well, for composers under 30 with a Philadelphia connection. The winning song was written by Isabella Nicole Ness.
